Wanderers Fellows · Internship Program

Real Experience.
Not Busywork.

Wanderers Fellows is an unpaid, hands-on internship for students who want real experience in sports, marketing, and entrepreneurship. Every Fellow owns an actual section of the club — planning it, building it, running it — with mentorship, a letter of recommendation, and a portfolio you can use for the rest of your career.

Apply For Fall 2026 Unpaid · Educational · Flexible hours

Open to Wheaton College students and anyone in the community — no soccer experience required.

🦩 We're still looking for our mascot — Rickle the Flamingo is open right now.

What You Get

Real Experience, On Record.

We believe the best ideas come from everyone and anyone — every Fellow gets a real voice in how the club runs, not just a task list.

  • Letter of recommendation upon successful completion
  • Professional reference from Wanderers leadership
  • Hands-on sports and event-management experience
  • Portfolio and resume experience
  • Mentorship
  • Networking with sponsors, players, coaches, and event partners

Upon successful completion of the internship, interns may request a letter of recommendation from Wanderers leadership based on their performance and contributions during the program.

Areas

Pick The Area You Want To Learn.

Every area is a real section of the club with a real Fellow behind it — not one task repeated all season. Not sure which fits? Apply anyway and tell us.

Media & Content

Own the club's story. Plan and shoot the content calendar, film matchday, edit it into reels all week, run the socials. Not "post this when we send it" — you decide what gets made and when. Real editorial ownership you can show in a portfolio.

You'll thrive if: You want real content-creation reps: planning, shooting, editing, publishing — the whole loop, not one piece of it.

Fan Experience

Own the day around the game. Plan the fan zone, the halftime activities, the crowd moments. Learn event design from the concept stage through execution, and lead the volunteer crew that runs it on gameday.

You'll thrive if: You want experience designing an event, not just working one.

Community & Outreach

Own relationships with local schools, businesses, and groups. Build the partnerships that fill the stands. Real sales and community-building reps — the kind that translate straight into any future job.

You'll thrive if: You want to practice outreach, partnerships, and getting a yes from a stranger.

Operations & Event Management

Own event logistics: layout planning, vendor coordination, gameday timelines, crowd flow. Set-up and tear-down are part of the learning, not the whole job — you're in the planning meetings too, and you help evaluate what worked after every match.

You'll thrive if: You want real sports/event-management experience, start to finish, not just moving tables.

Finance

Own real numbers for a real business. Help build the season budget, track cash flow, and put together projections leadership actually uses to make decisions. This is finance experience most students don't get until their first job.

You'll thrive if: You want real budgeting and cash-flow work, not a classroom case study.

Engineering & Props

Own the physical build: the mascot costume, signage, fan-zone stations, gameday gear. If it needs to be designed, built, or fixed before Saturday, you're the one who figures out how.

You'll thrive if: You're hands-on and want to point at something you physically built.

Photography

Own the still archive: match action, sponsor moments, headshots. Separate from video — this is the photo library the whole club pulls from all season for socials, sponsors, and press.

You'll thrive if: You want a real body of published sports photography work.

Be Rickle — Still Open!

The most beloved role in the club, and we're still looking. You BE Rickle the Flamingo — high-fives, sideline energy, the thing every kid remembers all week. Costume provided.

You'll thrive if: You've got energy, heart, and zero fear of looking ridiculous to make a kid's day.

Time Commitment

Flexible. 5–10 Hours A Week.

Most of the program runs on gameday. A short kickoff meeting and one build day get everyone set up before the season starts.

Kickoff Meeting

Saturday, Sept 12 — 10:00 AM. Meet the team, pick your area, learn how the season runs.

Build Day

Saturday, Sept 19 — 2–3 hours. Get Wanderland and gameday gear built and ready.

Gamedays

Four home matches, plus possible playoffs. 2:30 PM set-up · 4:00 PM kickoff · 8:00 PM end · 9:00 PM tear-down.

Sun, Sept 27Sun, Oct 11Sat, Oct 24Sat, Nov 7

Apply · Fall 2026

Apply To Wanderers Fellows.

One short form, and we read every single one. Tell us which area fits, and if there's a match we'll reach out to set up a quick chat. Personality beats a perfect résumé, every time.

Internships run now through November 22, 2026. All positions are unpaid — real experience, 2 free season tickets, and course credit where your school allows.
